Introductory Note
2 fundamental turning points can be observed
     - invention of linear writing
     - current invention of technical images
Suspicion that the structure of culture (and existence itself) is going through a fundamental change.
This book was intended to make a contribution

The Image

how an image is perceived is dependent upon how it is decoded.

The world is not immediately accessible to us. Images comprehenisbile
but, images come between the world and human beings - screens
They don't represent the world. The obscure it!

Idolatry, reversal of the function of an image.
Imagination has turned into hallucincation.
